*This post is inspired by “12 Signs You’re Addicted to Reading” on 101 Books.
Here are 12 more indicators of book addiction:
- You have a book bucket list. It never really gets shorter, only longer.
- There are books in every room of your home instead of televisions.
- There is no such thing as a partially used or unused Barnes and Noble gift card in your possession. In fact, when gifted it is most likely spent within a week.
- You’ve tweeted a #shelfie. You object to shelfie being underlined in red by the computer as a misspelling .
- If you read a book based on someone’s recommendation and love the book that person becomes an instant BFF.
- You facepalm when someone announces they liked Twilight. Don’t blame yourself. It’s practically an involuntary reflex.
- Scouting out bookstores on vacation is a must.
- Hunger poses an irritating interruption during a reading binge. You’ve most likely grabbed food and brought it back to your reading space. You shouldn’t be judged for bits of crumbs on your shirt and surrounding area.
- When people come to you for book suggestions you can match a book to their interest and personality.
- Your version of a gossip magazine is a biography.
- You feel compelled to tell everyone about the book you are reading and only notice about 20 minutes in that you’re giving a lecture and not engaged in a conversation.
- This is your purse. Well, it’s mine.

I went successfully went through a detox program and now I’m more or less book free. I had a slight relapse last summer when I discovered Jane Gardam, but I got back on the wagon soon after I finished reading everything I could find by her that was not written for children. 🙂

Shelfie?! I love it!
I recently explored a used book store owned by a hoarder. It was dreamland–but good dream or bad I could not decide.

That’s excellent! Definitely a good dream 🙂

I never realized I had an addiction to books… til now. Though you missed one point – the smell of used books!

I know I’m just a curmudgeon (sp ?), but to me the material one can get on a kindle or a tablet or a smart phone is not a book. A book is language on paper bound between covers. Just sayin’.

For me it depends on the book. I do tend to cherish the physical ones more. Thank you for commenting!

Today, I went on a day trip with my grandparents. When I got into the car, my grandmother asked me if I liked her bag, which happens to be the same one you have. =) I do believe I come from a family of book addicts.
Great list!

Thank you! I love that your grandmother has the same bag. She has fabulous taste 🙂

Calling us “addicts” suggests there is something wrong with us. I object!!! 🙂

There is also that perpetual feeling of panic at all the books you still have to read, and all the new ones coming out while you’re catching up on them.
And thank for liking our ‘Writers’ habits’ post.
